Charles Ernest Gilbert of Roundup, MT died January 13, 2006 due to complications following cardiac surgery in Billings.

Charles and Dorothy Gilbert fell in love with Montana and Roundup in particular while touring the state in 1988. They moved here from Laurel, MD in December 1988 and settled into retired life.

Charles was a kind and generous man. He volunteered his time tutoring second graders in reading every year at Roundup Elementary School. He worked at the food bank in Roundup on Fridays, giving out food to the needy. Many people’s lives were touched by his warmth and caring.

He was a devoted family man and told family members that he missed Dorothy every day since she her death in 2000. His daughters will remember his goodness, his fondness of reading, his love of travel and all things wild.

He had recently begun studying with the Jehovah’s Witnesses, which had given him new purpose and meaning in his life.
