Leona L. Mitzel, 75 of Billings passed away on November 26, 2011. She was born at home on the family farm in Carlyle, the first of twins born to parents Stanley and Mary Efta. She loved the farm, especially the sheep, and would continue to enjoy time in the country throughout her life. She was a lifelong gardener and always appreciated natural beauty. She gave generously of her time to several organizations in Billings.

Leona graduated from Sacred Heart High School and Presentation School of Nursing in Miles City. She eventually met her husband, Tony, while working as a nurse in Glendive. They were married fifty-two years.

Leona and Tony had six children who all survive her: Monica (Tim), Mary, Ray (Cynnamon), Tom (Shawna), Joe and Julie (Neil). They were blessed with six grandchildren: Jakob, Lily, Eliza, Finnegan, Beckett and Hugo. Leona was especially close to her niece, Carol Hauck (Jim), and their sons Tyler and Emmett. She always enjoyed family gatherings, and was pleased to have the entire family gather this past summer to celebrate her seventy-fifth birthday. She is also survived by siblings Richard, twin Leo, Roseline and Cecelia.

Leona was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Louise.

Cremation had taken place. Memorial Mass will be held today, Tuesday, November 29, at 9 a.m. at St. Pius X Church. Burial of cremains will following at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Montana Rescue Mission.

To Leona’s family – my sincere condolences. I will always remember the fun times when we were all young and struggling as we were beginning our new lives in Glendive.
