Meldora Legard passed away August 8, 2012 of natural causes at St. John’s Transitional Care Center in Billings MT at the age of 93. She was the third of eight children born to Gustav and Ansoph Skurdal. She attended schools in Belmont MT and Lavina MT as well as attending Business College in Billings.
Meldora married Almond Legard in 1939 in Red Lodge MT with Almond’s sister and husband as witnesses. They were blessed with 4 children: Thomas, Gerald, Linda (Brooks) and John Legard.
Meldora loved being involved in the family business – the raising of wheat, oats and barley. She had a large garden and canned vegetables. She loved raising fish, dogs, chickens and mink. She also enjoyed sewing for her granddaughters and enjoyed her plants and flowers. Her grandchildren enjoyed trips to the farm where they spent many days enjoying the outdoors and time with their grandparents. During the last 5 years Meldora has lived at Highgate Senior Living in Billings. While living there she thoroughly enjoyed the social life it provided and the many activities she was able to enjoy – especially listening and singing to music. She was welcomed and loved not only by fellow residents but by the Highgate staff.
Meldora is survived by her sons Thomas (Ginger) Legard, Gerald (Margaret) Legard and daughter Linda Brooks. She is survived by 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and her sister, Arclista Marick. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Meldora was preceded into heaven by her husband Almond, son John, father Gustav Skurdal and mother Ansoph (Lindvik) Skurdal, brothers Myron, Clayton and Douglas Skurdal. Also preceding are her sisters, Helen Skurdal, Verna Carlson and Ethaleen Mayes.
Visitation will be 1-8pm Friday at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Services will be held at the Lavina Methodist and American Lutheran Church in Lavina MT at 11:00 AM on August 11, 2012. A luncheon will be provided at the Lavina Senior Citizens Center immediately following the service. Interment will be held in the Belmont Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of Lavina, MT. The family would like to thank all who were involved in the loving environment that provided therapy, treatment and care for Meldora at St John’s TCC.
