Thomas Charles Kryzer, Sr. passed away peacefully on the morning of October 8th, 2012. Tom was born on June 18th, 1925 in Pine City Minnesota. He had a rural upbringing on the family farm with his brother and two sisters. He served in the army during WWII, spending most of his time in the pacific theater as a photographer and documentarian at the end of the war effort. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1951 with a degree in civil engineering. After graduating, he worked as a chemical engineer for Standard Oil Company for several years before attending the University of Chicago, where in 1966, he received an MBA. In 1974 he added an Advanced Management degree from Harvard business school and later received graduate training from Northwestern University in energy transportation. In 1973 he moved to Billings, Montana, working for Burlington Northern railroad as VP of energy development and delivery. He went on to be president of Northern Tier Pipeline. After his retirement, Tom continued his work in the energy field consulting on resource development and transportation, with special interests in ethanol and micro-petroleum refining. He authored many articles on energy development and transportation and was a frequent resource to state and national governments.

He married Lorena Lieser on September 2, 1950 in Slayton, Minnesota. They were married for 59 years and lived in Indiana, California, and Minnesota before settling in Billings, Montana in 1973. Tom and Lorena considered Montana their home immediately and were very active in their parish. Tom also served on the board of directors for Deaconess Hospital for many years and was an active member of Rotary Club. Tom and Lorena enjoyed traveling throughout the world. They went on multiple tours of Europe, including pilgrimages to Fatima, Medjugorje, and Lourdes; golfed throughout Scotland, flew on the Concord and visited China.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Lorena; his brother Benjamin Kryzer and sister, Agnes LaPage. He is survived by his older sister, Rosemary Kryzer of St Paul Minnesota; daughter Mary Johnson (Daniel) of Billings; son Tom, Jr. (Kathy) of Wichita Kansas; son Tim (Monica) of Lake Elmo, Minnesota; and granddaughters Sarah Johnson, Michaela, Emily, and Alison Kryzer.

A vigil service will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday, October 11 at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Funeral mass will take place at 9:00 am on Friday, October 12 at St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Rite of Committal with Military Honors will take place at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project and Montana Rescue Mission.

    Mary, Dan and Family,
    We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. It is very difficult when you loss both your Mom and Dad, as it leaves a real emptiness in your life. Your Dad had a lot of Great accomplishments, was a Great person and I know he raised a Great Daughter! We miss seeing you guys– hope Dan is doing well.
