Sue Fortune

Sue Carol (Gibson) Fortune (71) passed away January 18th, 2013 in Lewistown, Montana. Sue was born on June 10th, 1941 in Butte, Montana to Bill and Arlette Gibson. She graduated from Butte High and attended MSU and Carroll College. She was married to Bob Fortune from 1963 to 1974 and had three daughters. Her life was her family.

My mother was the first to introduce me to God – she read bedtime bible stories to my sister and me when we were little. It is one of my fondest memories of childhood. On January 18, 2013 she went home to be with our precious Lord. Though she was a tortured soul battling demons all her life, she never wavered in her faith. She believed in the trinity, was touched by the Holy Spirit and knew Jesus to be her Savior. During my last visit with her as I attempted to bring her some peace we read the bible together and she told me Jesus was her Savior. I believe beyond all doubt that she is with her one true love, Jesus and is reunited with her greatest champion, her mother Arlette Gibson. She joins in Heaven her baby daughter Mary Irene, her brother Ralph (Mike) and her grandson TJ Soapes.

Sue will live on in the memories of her beloved family. She has gone on in her journey to our Lord before her daughter Debby Rickey (Cliff) and cherished grandchildren Asia, Kory, Noah, and Tia, great grandchildren Kieriana and Trinity, daughter Bobbi Fortune (Tim), father Bill Gibson, brother Bill (Julie), nieces Cari, Cami, and Kaycee, brother Steve (Tina), nephews Jason, Andy, and Christopher, cousin Mary Louise Tierney (Lee) and their family. Many more loving relatives will live on with memories of her. Sue also touched the lives of the staff and nurses at the Montana Mental Health and Nursing Care Center where she received excellent care for the past 24 years.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church on Thursday at 10:00am. The burial ceremony will be held at Philipsburg Cemetery on Friday at 1:00pm.

There is no need to grieve, but cry tears of joy and happiness for her battle has ended and ultimately, good beat out evil – as God intended. MAY HIS PEACE, BEYOND ALL UNDERSTANDING, ENVELOP YOU AND THE LOVE OF GOD BE WITH YOU ALWAYS!

  1. I had the honor of working as a Recreation Aide during Sue’s stay at the MMHNCC. She was a beautiful soul and we talked a lot about God and sang contemporary hymns together. I will truly miss her. I know though that she is with her Lord and no longer frightened and ill. That brings me comfort.
