Betty Jane Atchison, 93 of Billings, died February 22, 2013 in Billings, MT. Betty was born October 6, 1919 to Frank and Bandina Hopkins. She grew up in Illinois and Geraldine, MT. In 1942 she married Russell M. Atchison also of Geraldine. When he was drafted into the Army during WWII she also joined the Army serving in a hospital in Philadelphia. After their service in the military they made their home in Geraldine until poor health caused her to move to Billings to be closer to family. They had 5 children. She was very active in her beloved community of Geraldine belonging to the United Methodist Church where she sang for many funerals and weddings, directed the children’s choir and in UMW. She also taught sewing in 4-H for many years and was very active in American legion Auxiliary where she was the last charter member.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Russ in 2000; her daughter Debra (Joe) LeLievre in 2010; her parents; siblings Dick Hinkle and Mary E. Vegoren; as well as 2 infant brothers; and numerous friends and relatives. She is survived by her children Peggy (Doug) Safley of Havre, Linda (Barry) Curtis of Billings, Bob (Carol) Atchison of Roundup, and Jay (Sharon) Atchison of Kennewick, WA; grandchildren Brenda (Bill) Curry, Chris (Tara) Wilcox, Tracie Dahl, Robyn (Jerry) Curtis-Rice, Ryan Curtis, Ben (Andi) LeLievre, Eric LeLievre, Jacqueline (Clay) Kraatz, Nolan Atchison, Shelby Atchison, and Colby Atchison; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Geraldine, MT, on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at 11:30 A.M., with burial to follow in the Geraldine Cemetery (her daughter Debra will also be laid to rest with her). There will be a luncheon after.
