Gloria Walking Eagle

Gloria Olive (Beaks) Walking Eagle, 58 of Billings, moved on to her next life at the Deaconess Billings Clinic, on February 24, 2013. She was born on April 9, 1954 in Stanley, North Dakota, the daughter of Harry and Olive (Stevenson) Beaks. They resided in New Town, ND and were members of the Hidatsa tribe.

Gloria has a love and desire to help people in any way possible. When she was 13, her mother was in failing health. Gloria cared for her in her dying days, as her nurse aide. That started her interest to become a certified nursing assistant, which she did from the time she was in the job corp in 1968. She went on to work at the Deaconess Billings Clinic for 16 years, until failing health caused her to retire in 2004.

Gloria married Carson B. Walking Eagle, Jr., on December 24, 1991, in Vernal, UT. Their only daughter Sherry Lynn was born June 12, 1985.

She was persistent, courageous, and strong willed, and had a heart of gold. She had a nurturing spirit that she developed from being around her close family members. In the field of nursing, she never doubted her skills and could do anything she put her mind to. Gloria will be missed very much by co-workers and friends and family.

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents; sister Colleen Winnie Beaks; and brother Milton Rufus “Moon” Beaks.

She is survived by her husband Carson Walking Eagle of Billings; daughter Sherry Walking Eagle of Billings; brother Gordon Beaks of Mohave Valley, AZ; sister Adeline Brunsell of New Town, ND; nieces and nephew; her beloved cats, Josephine “Baby” and Jasper; and her best friend Sandra Greenfield of Billings, Montana.

Prayer vigil services and visitation will be held from 6-9 P.M., Wednesday, February 27. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, both at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. The casket will be open for visitation prior to both services. Burial will follow at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park. A reception will be held following the burial at the Knight’s of Columbus Hall, on Grand Ave. All are welcome to join the family in celebration of Gloria’s life.

There is a place sweet as you will ever know. Music and love, things you’ll never tell. I love you Gloria. Miss you momma.
