Galen King, 70, of Billings, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at his home. Born in Billings on June 16, 1942, Galen was one of two children of Roland and Helen King. He grew up in Billings, graduating from Billings Senior High School in 1961. Galen entered the Marine Corps in 1962 and served as a lineman until his honorable discharge in 1964. He worked as a draftsman in Alaska before returning to Billings, where he was a Real Estate Broker for over 30 years. After retiring, he worked as the website manager for Denny Menholt Chevrolet.
In 1997, he married Pat Malvey Rookhuizen. Pat’s two children, Annie and Joey “adopted” Galen as their second father and their children proudly called him Papa.
Galen enjoyed life. He loved sports and followed the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners, as well as attended Billings Mustangs games. He was slow to judge and had a great sense of humor. Easy to get to know, there was never a person who didn’t like Galen
Survivors include his wife, Pat; sister Linda (Denny) Menholt and his niece, Angie (Andy) Randak; his “children,” Annie (Lyle) Slunaker and Joe (Amanda) Rookhuizen; and five grandchildren, Lily, Emily, Skyler, Elianna and Chloe. Also surviving are his children from previous marriages: Wendy, Matthew, Carrie and Warren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Helen King.
The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 29th at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 30th at King of Glory Lutheran Church, with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one’s choice.
