Mr. Joseph was born in Hampton, Neb., on March 17, 1929, a son of Albert and Marie (Rhode) Joseph. He was brought to Christ in holy baptism on March 31, 1929, and was publicly confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 18, 1943.
He attended elementary school at Zion Lutheran School in the country, four miles northeast of Hampton. After graduating from Hampton High School in 1947, he worked on a couple of farms, moving to Montana in late 1947. Mr. Joseph was employed in 1948 by McKesson Drug Company, working in the warehouse till 1951, when he was drafted into the Army, serving during the Korean Conflict till 1953. After the service, Mr. Joseph rejoined McKesson on the office staff as pricer and claims and adjustments clerk. In 1964, Mr. Joseph transferred to the sales staff, locating in Glasgow; from 1969 to 1975, in Lewistown; and then headquartering in Great Falls till 1984, when, due to health problems, he had to quit working. He moved back to Billings in 1985.
Mr. Joseph entered the holy estate of matrimony with Lillian L. Pinnow on Sept. 3, 1950, at Peace Lutheran Church in Plevna. One daughter, Kathryn L. (Joseph) Zastrow, was born to this union. She preceded him in death in 1982.
Mr. Joseph was active in the Lutheran churches wherever they lived, always emphasizing Christian education. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on the Evangelism Committee. He had also served as chairman, elder and on other boards and committees in various congregations. Mr. Joseph was a member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League, also serving on the District Board in recent years as Treasurer and League Services Chairman. He was a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathryn; his wife, Lillian; his parents, Albert and Marie Joseph; brothers Lawrence, Arnold, Rueben and Gerhard; twin sister Roberta Sackschewsky; sisters-in-law Dorothy and Evelyn; brother-in-law Delbert; nephew Don Joseph and niece Betty Shelton. Surviving are sisters-in-law Arlene Joseph of Hampton and Norma Joseph of Grand Island; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Joseph died March 16, 2013, of natural causes.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Billings, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Bob requests no flowers, but wishes memorials to Trinity Lutheran School and Trinity Lutheran Church to continue Christian Education and assist young people to enter full time church work, Lutheran Braille Workers to continue producing Braille and large print material for the blind, Lutheran Tape Ministry to produce Christian tapes, Good Shepherd Lutheran Home of the West, Montana Unit, Lutheran Hour, bringing the Gospel to the Nation and St. John’s Lutheran Home.
