John Nick was born in Butte, Mont., to Mathias and Mary Nick. When he was 14, he went to work as an errand boy for Texaco Oil. He went into the service Aug. 22, 1944. He was a member of the 45th Infantry division. His division fought through 511 of the most savage days of the European war. Besides the Purple Heart, he received two battle stars and the Combat Infantryman badge.
Betty Dolan was born in Columbus, Mont., to Tom and Lena Dolan. She grew up on Shane Ridge outside of Columbus, with her brother, Tom, and many close cousins.
John and Betty met while he was working in Columbus at the office of the chrome mine. They were married 69 years. John’s work with Texaco took them to Butte, then on to L.A. and Atlanta, Ga. Each place held special memories and special friends. While in Georgia, Betty mastered the art of china painting. Her pieces are treasured by many family and friends.
By the time John retired, he was manager of the Controller’s Department for Texaco Oil in Atlanta, Ga.
Upon retiring, John and Betty moved to Billings to be close to family. They leave behind numerous nieces and nephews and their families. They are now forever united with God and family and friends who preceded them in death.
