Eugene “Gene” Rogina passed away on Christmas day after a short illness surrounded by his family. He was an amazing husband, dad, papa and friend to so many people.

He was born March 6, 1935 to Louis and Garnet (Phillips) Rogina in Keeline, Wyoming. The family moved to Billings when he was very young. At the age of nine, he lost his father. His mother never remarried, but devoted her life to raising their six children.

Gene married the love of his life, Marcella “Sally” Fasching on April 24, 1954. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this coming April. They lovingly raised six children together.

Gene loved building anything and everything – from scratch! He built snow mobiles, dune buggies, tote goats, guitars and guns, just to name a few things. He was fondly called “Genius Gene” by many. He spent endless days and night “tinkering” out in his garage. He loved snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, gardening and anything out doors. One of his favorite things was elk hunting camp with all the boys.

He was self-employed most of his life. He took great pride in owning “Gene’s Appliance Service”. He was a very loyal, loving husband, father and Papa to his family. He was a very good provider and was always the first to pitch in when someone needed help. He had a close circle of friends, Floyd Kimmel, “Uncle” Johnny Reichert, and Speed Leckie who will dearly miss him.

Gene is survived by his wife, Sally, sons, Wes (Tammy), Scott (Juanita) and Randy, three daughters, Pam Rogina, Teri (Leon) Pattyn, Brenda Reidy, and one “honorary” son, Ed (Tangie) Erickson. He also leaves behind thirteen amazing grandchildren that he adored, Warren (Morgan) and Bud Pattyn, Tiffany and Laramie Rogina, Travis Garritson, Danyella (Layne)Tandeski, Josie Bowman, Levi and Cody Reidy, Scott, Jaylee, Eddy and Gracie Erickson, and one great-granddaughter, Mahkayla Tandeski. He is also survived by one sister, Phyllis (John) Hufford and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Garnet Rogina, three brothers, Ray, Jim and Leonard, and one sister, Janice Rowe.

Memorial Contributions can be made in Gene’s name to HRDC, 7 North 31st Street, Billings, MT 59101, OR American Cancer Society, 1903 Central Avenue, Billings, MT 59102

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson  Ave. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
