Laura Elizabeth Madden, beloved wife, mother, daughter, and sister, departed this life April 25, 2014.

Laura was born October 19, 1977 in Billings, Montana to John and Elizabeth Madden. She was a strong-willed, inquisitive, and intelligent child who found joy in the outdoors and spending time with her two younger siblings. Laura was much like a second mom to them and, while often insisting on her own way, loved and cared for them all her life.

Laura attended Skyview High School, graduating in 1996. She had an avid and lifelong interest in the sciences and elected to pursue a degree in biology. She spent time at Oregon State University and the University of Montana eventually completing her degree at Montana State University – Billings, where she was named Outstanding Senior in Biology. Like many members of her family, Laura continued to cultivate her academic interests and, after working as a chemist, chose to continue her education at Pennsylvania State University where she studied acoustics and wildlife biology. Laura’s intelligence, kindness, and sincere devotion to loved ones were her defining characteristics. She was truly a wonderful mother whose tender heart and dedication to her children were acknowledged by all who knew her. She delighted in the company of family and friends which she viewed as a cornerstone of her life.

Laura was preceded in death by her father, John Madden and her grandparents George and Virginia Madden and David Hyams. She is survived by her husband Quinn Emett, sons, Truce (6 yrs.) and Graeme (1yr), her mother Liz Madden, grandmother Rosemary Hyams, sister Anne (Madden) and Joe Costilla, brother John Madden, nieces Mayra and Elia Costilla, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She will be dearly missed by all.

Cremation has taken place. Vigil service will be 7:30pm Tuesday at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be 12noon Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Co-Cathedral with Rite of Committal at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a fund to help her family may be made at
