Craig Sowerwine

Craig James Sowerwine, 21, of Billings, went to be with the Lord on May 2, 2014, following a motorcycle accident in Billings.

Craig was born in Cody, Wyo., on May 19, 1992, the son of J.F. and Lisa Sowerwine. He was a brother to Randy, Markus and Katie. Craig attended school in Park City, where the family resided until he was a sophomore in high school, upon which time the family moved to Billings, where he finished his education at West High School, graduating in 2010. Craig went on to attend Montana State University Billings, where he just finished his last finals for the semester.

All who knew Craig knew he was a kind and wonderful human being. His whole-hearted love for people and animals was evident in his daily actions. He lit up a room with his handsome smile and good-looking features. His tall 6’6” height commanded attention when he walked into the room. He was a caring and supportive brother to his siblings and a true friend to his pals! The effect he had on others was evident in the outpouring of support from family, friends and strangers since his passing. His life mission was to have a positive impact on everyone he met (whether they wanted it or not), and he accomplished that!

At the time of his passing, Craig was a Pharmacy Tech at Walgreen’s in the Heights. He was working hard to complete his degree in business finance, so he could work alongside his father at RBC Wealth Management, along with his brother Randy. He enjoyed many other jobs in his short life, including being a beekeeper, even though he was allergic to bees, because it was a challenge for him. He was a lifeguard for many years, and saved the life of more than one drowning swimmer. He excelled and worked hard at everything he attempted.

Craig was a natural athlete, achieving many medals and trophies, usually they were BLUE! He was proud of his Presidential Physical Fitness Awards and, in high school, he participated in as many sports as he could, and enjoyed the feeling of accomplishing and nearly mastering yet another sport. Everyone looked up to him, and not just because of his height, but because of who he was.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and we can only hope each and every one of you will have the pleasure of knowing someone like Craig.

He is survived by his parents, J.F. and Lisa Sowerwine of Billings; brothers Randy and Markus (Rylee); sister Katie; Micah Sammartino and their unborn son, due in July; his nephew, Markus and Rylee’s son Kaden; grandparents, Elbert (Pam) Sowerwine, Helen (Joseph) Venier, and Denise Donham; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; a host of awesome, great and wonderful friends; and his favorite four-legged friend and companion, Lu-Lu.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Faith Chapel, corner of Broadwater Ave and Shiloh Drive in Billings. A reception will follow.

Memorials may be made directed to a fund that has been established to benefit Craig’s unborn child, c/o Sowerwine Fund, RBC Wealth Management, PO Box 2158, Billings, MT 59103.

I just wanted to tell you again how proud I am of the the Son that you are and the Man you have become!
Today I saw the most recent ultrasound pictures of your son and he is going to be just as handsome as you.
As you can see, (I hear, in Heaven you can read every ones Facebook pages) all of your friends are going to miss you greatly. However no one will miss you as much as your Father, Mother, Brothers and Sister will. In your short 21 years You have touched many, many, many peoples lives in tremendous ways. Your amazing ability to just light up any room at any time has made this World a much better place. You have made me a better Man a better Father a better Husband a better Friend and I could go on for hours. I truly don’t think that there would be one single person out there that wouldn’t say the same for them. I am sure that the Good Lord wanted to be touched by you too and just couldn’t wait to be close to you any longer.
Thank You so much for the time that we had together, I will cherish it forever and forever. I will talk to you again tomorrow, good night, I love you. Dad

  3. To the Sowerwines and Micah,

I did not meet Craig in person but I talked to him through the phone on many occasions and he was always happy going. We keep you all in prayer and thought feeling the pain of loss for such a young, vibrant man. May baby CJ fill your lives in his Dad’s absence. So sorry for your loss but know Craig is in the best of loving, caring hands until you meet again.

Lisa, J.F. and Family – There are just not enough words to say how devastated and sorry we are for your loss. Craig was such an amazing young man and I am so happy I had the pleasure of knowing him since he was just 6 years old. I know the Lord is already using his goodness in heaven. We are thinking and praying for you all.

JF and Lisa, and your families,
My children and I were so saddened to hear of your loss of your dear son Craig. Though we only met him once or twice briefly while at Stevenson events in Bridger years ago, I couldn’t be more aware of how adored he was, by the pride and love you both have shared in your stories about your children. You are both wonderful parents. May your memories give you comfort as you take each day, one at a time, on your path of healing.
    Love, Beth

  9. To the family of Craig,
My heart broke when I saw Craig had passed. He was so kind and compassionate. I met him through the pharmacy and could not believe how he went out of his way to help me when others would not. I am at a loss for words as to how saddened I am. You have my deepest sympathy.

My thoughts and prayers have been with you JF and family. In all our meetings over the years it was evident how close and cherished your family is to you JF. My heart is filled with sorrow to hear of your great loss. Craig was a bright light and embraced life to the fullest it seems, and he made you so proud. I am sure the heavens are ringing with his goodness above. Expect a card coming soon, that grand baby will be such a joy to this family.
