Ellen “Bert” Ward died Aug. 14, 2014, of natural causes, in Roundup.
Born on Sept. 14, 1922, in Greenfield, Ohio, the only child of Herbert and Reta Kline, “Bert” (as she was known) was reared in Springfield, Ohio. She graduated from Wittenberg University in 1943 with a degree in dietetics.
She worked for a time as a dietician in Detroit. Her love of cooking continued in her later life as a homemaker. Family and friends still remember many memorable dinner parties which she hosted.
It was while working in Detroit that she met a young urology intern named Berl Ward. They married in 1946, lived in seven different states, finally settling in their favorite home in Billings.
Bert is survived by her grown twin children, Mark Ward (Lynn) and Michele Ward (Bruce Cameron); four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Bert and Berl (“B and B”) were long-term members of First Presbyterian Church in Billings. A memorial service for Bert will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the church, with the Rev. Dave Thompson presiding.
