Sibyl Walker

Wednesday evening, July 20, 2016, Sibyl slipped from this life to the next — “the real life.” The past several days, she was surrounded by her family. Sibyl was a gentle soul, quiet and mild mannered. We celebrated the fact that she lived to be 98 and able to be part of five generations: three children, 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Sibyl was born on Feb. 18, 1918, in Crossville, Tenn. She lived most of her life in Oregon, Idaho and Washington. The past 22 years, she resided in Billings, for 19 years with her daughter and son-in-law Ginger and Stan Simmons, then three years in St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Sibyl’s family are very grateful for the love and care she received from the wonderful staff at St. John’s — they were exemplary.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Faith Chapel, 517 S. Shiloh Road.

  1. Ginger, I am saying prayers for your comfort and continued peace with the knowledge that your faith will sustain you and Sibyl’s loved ones in the days to come. I remember her with fondness, how we sat together at Thanksgiving dinners, her great sense of humor, and how she would walk all the way from her room at St.Johns to mine both times I was in Transitional Care, pushing the door open with her cane or walker, and her half-smile at surprising me. She was kind and she was wise and strong. One did not have to know her well to know she loved her family. Our moms are hard to lose…they have known us the longest and loved us in the way no one else can or ever will. The service today was tender and meaningful. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

It was a privilege and an honor to care for Sibyl during the time I worked at St. John’s. Talking to her was a highlight of my shift. We shared a love of family and a deep faith in the Lord. I will always remember her gentleness and kindness; she was truly special. Ginger, your devotion to your mother was an example to all. May your memories of time spent with Sibyl bring you comfort…….
