Mariann Mikes

Mariann Mikes, a loving wife, caring mother and generous friend, passed on May 2, 2017, likely due to a pulmonary embolism.

Mariann, 64, was born on Jan. 20, 1953, to Fabian and Irene (Sailor) Breitbach in Circle. She received her education in Circle, going on to graduate from Carroll College with a degree in medical records administration. She married her best friend Andy Mikes on June 28, 1975, and lived in Billings. Mariann worked at Sears until she and Andy moved to Kansas, where they lived from 1978 until 1983, where Andy managed home-centers. Their two sons, Shane and Derick, were born in Kansas. Moving back to Billings, Mariann ran an in-home day-care for 17 years, taking care of over 300 kids across the years. She then worked for the Billings School District until the time of her passing.

Mariann was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her five siblings, Paul, Pat, Rose, Perry and Dee; her uncle, William Breitbach; her husband, Andy Mikes; her sons, Shane (Elisabeth) and Derick (Lindsey); two granddaughters, Mae and Des; and many nephews and nieces.

Mariann loved to knit and socialize with her friends in the neighborhood, church and Cum Christo group.

Casket is open for visitation from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 6, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. A vigil for Mariann will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, at St. Pius X Church, 717 18th St. West. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, with a luncheon following.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to La Vie or any Pro-Life charity of your choice.

My condolences and prayers to you, Andy, and your family. I remember Mariann fondly from the 1980s when we were friends at St. Pius and when she took care of our children. She was always happy, energetic and grateful to God for her blessings. May God give you comfort.

Andy, Shane, Derrick & all Breitbach family, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Mariann. We quickly became friends when she lived across the hall from me at Carroll College. She was a true friend for the rest of her life. There are so many stories, but mainly Mariann was a woman of faith, so I know she is at peace now. Love and prayers to all of you.

Andy, Shane and Derick I send my heartfelt sympathy to you. Mariann was truly one of the most generous people I’ve met. It was always nice knowing we had a safe place to go if we needed it. May memories of her love comfort you.

  4. Andy and boys, I was so saddened this morning when I read this. She was such a wonderful neighbor and friend. My thoughts immediately went to when I was taking care of my mother: she often brought food over or vegetables and was always willing to help me to get my mother out of the house. I will always remember her with fondness. One of my favorite coffee cake recipes came from her. Sincere sympathy. Pat and Dave Dimzoff

Andy, Shane, and Derick, So very sad to hear from our Ryan about Mariann’s passing. She was a GREAT lady and will always be remembered for her love of children. She was so good to our boys Ryan and Aaron. She’s been called home much sooner than any of us would have liked but we are confident God is well-pleased with her life and service for Him. We hold all of you up in prayer during this time of sadness and pray you will find comfort from all those who love you. In His Love, Pat and Ellie Connelly

Andy and family…so sorry to read of Mariann’s passing. We spent the morning of April 4th at the Yellowstone Medical Center with her while she waited for us to give her a ride home. Her vehicle was on the fritz, in the parking garage, and was to become Andy’s problem after work….we so enjoyed her humor regarding her predicament. God Bless and keep her. Julie and Tom Prill
