It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Adam Quentin Rumph, age 39, on January 25, 2025. Adam was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend who touched the lives of many with his generosity and fun, loving spirit.

Born on January 7, 1986, in Gillette, Wyoming, he spent his first few years in Biddle, Montana and then moved to Gillette for elementary school and high school.  We all knew he was brilliant from the very beginning. He could multiply in his head before he even started school. His siblings very distinctly remember a time when they found him in the extra room, age 4, happily playing his new Socrates. He had found his Christmas present in a closet, unwrapped it and completely set it up by himself. He was a gentle, easy going child that let his brother and sisters dress him up and play with him like he was their own real life babydoll. He was the youngest brother that completed his family.

Adam graduated as a salutatorian from Campbell County High School in 2004.  He obtained a degree in computer engineering at the University of Wyoming in 2009. Adam grew up with a passion for computers and games of all kinds.  He loved swimming, bowling, golf, and playing cards. He was in his element when he was creating new games and organizing and competing in tournaments. In true Rumph/Zehnbauer/Weischedel fashion he embraced the lively banter, blending humor with rivalry.

Adam started with Socrates, but worked his way through almost every other gaming system throughout his life. He spent countless hours exploring virtual worlds and connecting with friends online. His favorite games were not just a pastime, they were a way for him to bond with others and share his passion with the world. His nephews especially loved sharing this passion with him.

His favorite holiday was Halloween, roping his brother and friends into the latest group costume idea whether they liked it or not. He was the life of the party, wanting to make sure everyone was having fun. He loved music and always had a new artist you should listen to, communicating his own feelings through the lyrics. He shared a bond with animals, training his siblings’ dogs when he came to visit. He claimed he didn’t like desserts, but you seldom saw him without a bag of skittles, a container of red vines, or an ice cream sandwich. He loved watching football, especially the Broncos with his big brother, and could spend hours discussing the sport.

Adam’s career started at H2X in Gillette and then he worked at HDR and Quantum in Billings, MT. He achieved an award of excellence while with HDR. He was also proud of the number of hours he spent helping his dad on the family ranch, making sure everyone knew how many bales he made.

Adam is survived by his parents, Quentin Rumph and Janet and Pete Allee; his siblings, Kelsy (Chris), Kade (Ashley), Aubrey (Nitan), Melina; and his cherished nieces and nephews, Ania, Quinn, Karter, Kase, and Everly. He also leaves behind many friends and a huge extended family with aunts, uncles, and cousins who will remember his beautiful mind and love for laughter. Adam was preceded in death by his grandparents; Roly and Erma Rumph, Joe and Ruth Zehnbauer, and Paul and Marjorie Allee.

Adam’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

A celebration of Adam’s life will be held in the spring at the family ranch.
