Amanda Sue Mccormick

Amanda Sue McCormick was born on a snowy day, Jan. 22, 1989, to Allen and Linda McCormick, in Billings. Amanda passed into eternal life on Nov. 2, 2023.

She attended Central Heights Elementary school and graduated with honors in 2007 from Billings West High, where she was very active in school programs. Amanda loved sports and was a fierce competitor, playing softball and was the Gatorade Rookie of the Year for the Billings West High in 2004. She was a three-year letterman for West High Softball. Besides softball, she was active with the Debate Team and went to state for competition. Amanda was also active in High School Pep Band and was part of the West High Symphony. She played Little League Softball and was named to the Burlington All Star Team. She traveled with a summer softball league as well, playing in Canada and in the Northwest which she really enjoyed. Softball was a sport she loved and excelled at, holding the batting title at Billings West High School. She had offers from colleges for softball, but elected to attend Montana State University Billings on a full-ride academic scholarship, graduating with a Communications Degree with Honors in 2011.

Amanda’s elementary years included figure skating with practices at 5 a.m. at Centennial Ice Arena. Her dedication helped win many contests she competed in. She was also active in 4-H growing up and held officer positions with the local 4-H Club. She loved participating in the fairs and was able to show animals at the Daniels County Fair that her Grandpa Jim and Grandma Shirley would provide so she would have an animal to show.

Amanda loved her family and was a proud sister to her two brothers and always had advice for them, whether they agreed or not. Amanda had a fiercely independent outlook on life and always wanted to prove that she could do it in her own way. Working long hours was one way to prove she could do it. She trained and competed in a Spartan race, finishing the course with her friend, all while maintaining her diabetes.

Amanda faced many challenges in life, including drug addiction that eventually won. With her type 1 diabetes, she was constantly trying to get help from her doctors to control it. She was instrumental in helping the family fundraise to support the American Diabetes Association and Montana Kids Camp for Diabetes, by biking in an annual 26-mile race known as the Montana Tour De Cure.

Amanda is survived by her parents Al and Linda; brother Kyle; and a brother Ty and his special friend Samantha. Other survivors include several aunts, uncles and cousins who were near and dear to her heart.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Jim and Shirley Hinton, Gil and Marie McCormick; and three special uncles, Lynn Hinton, John McCormick and Randy Ebberson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at Faith Chapel, 517 Shiloh Road in Billings, with a reception to follow services.

Amanda, your family will always love you and miss you. You are now at peace and may God bless you.
