Dolly was born on February 22, 1940, in Pittsburgh, PA, to John and Millie Powers. She grew up in Pennsylvania and was the oldest of four children, the big sister to Kathleen, Jack, and Madeline. She raised her own children—Donnie, Chuck, Melanie, and Jarrett—in Pennsylvania, Florida, and Alaska.
Throughout her life, Dolly maintained a strong faith in the Lord and demonstrated that faith through her interactions with those around her. She was able to relate to everyone and could communicate with all types of people. She dedicated her life to making a difference in the world through her career with the Salvation Army, working with the Homeless Program, Addiction Prevention Programs, counseling clients, and cooking in the program kitchen. Dolly moved to Alaska in 1990 to work for JJ Powers Public Relations until 2001, when she returned to Pennsylvania. Throughout her retirement years, Dolly continued to make a difference through volunteer work with other seniors in Las Vegas and Billings.
In 2006, Dolly married Ron Wittman in Red Lodge, MT. They built a beautiful life together in Billings, MT, and in Las Vegas, NV.
Dolly is survived by her husband Ron; children Charles Rankin and Jarrett Jackson; stepchildren Deanne (Doug) VanZee and Brandon (Zoe) Wittman; grandchildren Tiffany, Rachel, and Don Jr.; step-grandchildren Mariah and Marcus; one great-grandchild; sister-in-law Hilda Rymer; nephew Clifford Rymer; and niece Susan (Ron) Tinn. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Kathleen, Jack, and Madeline; son Donnie; and daughter Melanie.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Yellowstone River Nursing and Rehabilitation, the doctors and staff at the Billings Clinic, and Riverstone Hospice for their care and kindness during Dolly’s time at their facility.
