Anne (Stene) Pepple died in Butte, MT early Friday morning, April 13, 2012. She was 91 years old.
Annie was born May 5, 1920 to Chris and Martha Stene. She was the youngest of six children and the only child born in a hospital. Annie graduated from Joliet High School in 1938 and after graduating from Billings Deaconess Hospital in 1941 became a registered nurse. Her first job as a nurse was in Big Timber, MT.
Soon thereafter she enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps in 1942 and on December 2, 1944 married Richard Pepple in San Luis Obispo, CA. After serving as chief nurse with the 98th Field Hospital on Hawaii and Okinawa Japan, she was discharged in 1946, returning to live in Illinois with Richard. She worked as a public health nurse and in hospitals until Richard died in 1954 in St. Elmo, Illinois where he taught high school. Anne then moved to DuQuoin, Illinois with her daughter Mary Kay where she continued her education at St. Louis University and worked in her profession as a school nurse until she retired in 1981.
She then returned to Joliet, MT and spent many years enjoying her brothers, sisters and many nieces and nephews. She remained active in her profession serving on the Carbon County Health Board. In 2007, Anne moved to Butte, MT to be near her daughter.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Martha Stene, husband Richard Pepple, and all of her five brothers and sisters, Lloyd, Joseph & Melvin Stene, Minnie Carmony and Ruth Stender. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Kay and husband Phil Cammack of Butte, sister-in-law Lillian Stene of Joliet and brother-in-law Eugene Stender of Joliet and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2pm Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Joliet Lutheran Church. Interment with military honors will be in Rockvale Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Rocky Mountain Hospice, Butte, or the charity of one's choice.
