August Jacob Schaffer

August Jacob Schaffer was born on Aug. 15, 1926, and passed away on June 12, 2018.
He was born in the now historic Paris, Montana, to Jacob and Mary Schaffer. August was of Russian and Romanian descent; he could speak fluent German and Russian. In his younger days, August could be heard singing "Silent Night" in Russian on Christmas Eves.
August attended several elementary schools in Miles City. Before he retired, August worked in grain elevators and did light janitorial work in Miles City.
In 1965, August moved to the Warm Springs area. He moved to Billings in 1993 and received Residential Services served by REM MT. In 2003, AWARE INC. took over August's care.
August was a quiet man. He loved possessions: his own, his housemates' and staff's. He kept all of them safe in his bedroom.
August loved ice cream, cooked carrots, puddings and coffee. And, of course, toast with every meal!
August's parents and five siblings preceded him in death. He is survived by his AWARE family who have had the privilege of being part of his life for the past 15 years.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, June 18, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Mountview Cemetery, 1704 Central Ave.
