Barbara S. Mittel

With her heart at peace and her wish granted, our dear mother, Barbara S. Mittel, passed away on March 9, 2018, at 93 years young. She was born in July of 1924 to Eme K. Snyder and Howard C. Snyder, in Yonkers, New York. Mom graduated from high school and then attended Sarah Lawrence College, with her education being interrupted by World War II. She met and married Philip D. Mittel, a returning veteran, our dad.

Mom was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved gardening, reading and all the family pets. Mom and Dad loved the California coast. With raising their family to enjoy going to the beach and later in life a beach house for escape, the sand and the surf were a big part of their lives. Visiting their children in new locations around the U.S. was a special adventure for them also.

Barbara is survived by her children, Sandra (Pete), Pamela, Philip and Priscilla (Bill). She is also survived by her grandson, Douglas (Jordan); and her two great-granddaughters, Aulden and Meredith; as well as her sister, Nancy Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip.

An informal memorial gathering will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Barbara will be interred at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California.
