Barbara Tipton, of Billings, died April 18, 2016. She was 87.

She was born on May 23, 1928, in Livingston, to Albert F. and Clara Nickelson. She grew up in the Livingston area and in Three Forks, Anaconda and Columbus as her family moved while her dad was stationed with the Montana Highway Patrol. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1946 and Montana State College in 1950. In Columbus, she met Jack Tipton, who took her to her senior prom on their first date. They were married on Aug. 5, 1951.

Mrs. Tipton taught home economics at Billings Senior High before becoming a mom and homemaker. Mrs. Tipton was a member of First Congregational Church. She was a Girl Scout leader, an advisor to Rainbow Assembly 24 and a member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed her daughters' concerts and athletic events; and picnics and camping with her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Connie and Stuart Snyder (Alison, Sara) of Billings, Susan and Paul Gallemore (Amy) of Durango, Colo., Nancy and Olson Lee of Oakland, Calif., Carol and Bret (Moriah, Andrea, Elizabeth), Judy and Michael Killen (Ann Marie, Carrie) of Huntley; and Peggy and Dean Adams (Nicholas, Lilly) of Boise, Idaho; her sister, Margery Warfield of Pray; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico and Michigan.

Mrs. Tipton was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Jack; and her brother, Harold Nickelson.

Graveside memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, followed by a reception at the Shrine Auditorium, 1125 Broadwater Ave. Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Masonic Scholarship Fund or the Shriners Children's Hospital Travel Fund.
