Betty May Hofstad, age 86, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend, passed away the morning of Dec. 26, 2022, at Billings Clinic.
Betty was born in Martin, North Dakota, to John and Martha Weisser on Oct. 7, 1936. She grew up on the family farms and attended rural schools. Eventually, Betty moved to Billings, but continued to keep ties and spend time with family and friends in and around Harvey and Martin.
Betty worked many years for Northwest Bank and then EMC College, where she developed lifelong friendships with many people.
Betty is best known to friends and family for her infectious smile, poise and strength, as well as her fierceness with which she loved her family and friends. She was an inspirational influence to so many people that she touched. Her presence was a gift to all those who knew and loved her.
She enjoyed spending time with her friends going to lunch, dinner, country rides or just having coffee chats. Any time spent with family was Betty’s favorite time. Christmastime spent listening to the Ventures Christmas album and watching the grandkids decorate her tree and house always brought a smile to her face.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Karla (Richard) Hostetler, Billings; daughter Tracy Short, Billings; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister Margie; multiple nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Roger Hofstad; son Ryan; brothers Alfred, Alvin, Leroy, Herbert; and sister Alice.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Tumbleweed Foundation in Billings. There will not be a public service held.
Special thanks go out to the staff in the Billings Clinic Intermediate Care Unit for their kindness and compassion during Betty’s last weeks.
