Shortly after returning from WW II, he married Norma Jean Norton (also from Newcastle, OK). Calvin and Jean had five children and were married 52 years until her death in 1999. He then married Norma Thomas and they enjoyed seven years together.

Calvin was honorably discharged as a sergeant in Company D of the 276th infantry on Oct. 19, 1945. After his marriage to Jean, he attended Oklahoma State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Dairy Science. His first job out of college was with the Pet Milk Co. in Joplin, MO. where he served as a Quality Control Field Man for four years. During this time he also served in the Navy Reserves. He then was recruited by Central Oklahoma Milk Producers to establish and direct a laboratory which tested for milk quality and dairy diseases. Calvin did this for twelve years and then was commissioned into the US Public Health Service after earning his Master’s degree in Environmental Health at Oklahoma University in 1966. He served as a sanitarian for the Indian Health Services in Winslow, AZ; Billings, MT; and Portland, OR. He retired in 1982 with over 29 years of military service.

His many interests included helping his church (Rimrock Baptist, now called Life Way Church), traveling in his motor home and reading Zane Gray novels. He retired in 1982 from the Public Health Service as a Captain where he was admired by his staff, friends, and co-workers as “The Silver Fox” Calvin was a loving, caring, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always made his kids laugh when they would ask to go do something, and his stock answer would always be, “Let’s don’t and say we did.” Mostly “we did!”

He was affectionately called "Great Calvin" by his great grandson, Calvin.

The family would like to think the very kind and caring staff at The Vista and Unity Square at St. John's. Calvin was treated with respect and dignity during his stay.
