Carol Bartle

Beloved wife, mother and sister, Carol Loreen Bartle, 95, passed away May 26th, 2016. She was born to John and Florence Carlson on Sept 22, 1920 in Nortonville, North Dakota. The family moved to Edgeley, ND in 1926 where she attended school and graduated from high school in 1938. She played on a women's softball team and also played trumpet in the Edgeley Community Band. After graduating she worked in Fargo and Bismarck. On October 20, 1943 she married Wilbur (Bill) Bartle, the love of her life. Their marriage lasted nearly 63 years until Bill's passing in 2006. Bill graduated from naval officer training school at Columbia University on the morning of October 20, 1943, and they were married in the afternoon at Riverside Church in New York City.

After the end of WWII they lived in Valley City, ND for 11 years where Bill taught school. They moved to Billings, MT in 1957 where he continued his teaching career.

Carol enjoyed sewing and knitting, she was accomplished at both and made many items for her family - intricate sweaters, hats, scarves, mittens, Christmas stockings, etc. She also enjoyed genealogy and her family history. She used her computer and photo scanner to document family history and created many scrapbooks and photo albums. In later years Carol and Bill were avid Duke basketball fans and watched many games.

She is survived by her children Denis (GlenNae), Janice, David (Cindy), eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters Lorna Carow, Doreen Lende and June Hartwig.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her brother Byrl Carlson and her parents.

Graveside services will be held at a later date when she and Bill will be interred together as they wished.

Her bright, cheerful personality, sense of humor and devotion to her family will be dearly missed.

Her family wishes to express deep gratitude to the staff of Fischer Cottage at St. John's for the loving physical and emotional care they provided for her during her stay there.
