Casey Edward Slough, 74, passed away on July 5, 2024.
He was born in Billings on March 23, 1950, to Ted and Harriet Slough. Casey was the oldest of four boys. Casey’s family moved several times during his early childhood, following his father’s job in construction. They finally settled in Billings, where Casey attended Lockwood School. It was in the sixth grade there that Casey met his classmate (and future wife), Bonnie Goebel. They may have been a little smitten at the time…. While Casey stayed at Lockwood School, Bonnie and her family moved into “town.” They may have gone to different schools, but their paths would cross again.
After graduating from Billing Senior High School in 1968, Casey began working at Yellowtail Dam. His and Bonnie’s paths did cross again while she was working at the World Theater. They soon began dating and got engaged. During their engagement, Casey served in the Marine Corps Reserves. On June 6, 1970, Casey and Bonnie were married in Billings. During the early years of their marriage, Casey worked in the construction field as a laborer. In 1972, they welcomed a daughter, Angie, followed in 1975 by a son, Ted. Casey coached Ted’s baseball teams and watched Angie’s majorette performances. He eventually became a heavy equipment operator for Western Energy in Colstrip. He retired in 1995.
Casey loved being “out in the country.” He loved riding horses and spent many hours riding and taking care of his favorite horse, Sassy. He loved to watch rodeos and even rode in a few in his younger days. Traveling to Las Vegas for the National Finals Rodeo was a favorite trip of his. Casey also enjoyed hunting and spending time on the family ranch on Sarpy Creek. Many good times were had there playing cards, hunting and enjoying time with family and friends.
After retiring, Casey spent most of his time with his wife Bonnie until her passing in 2005. Casey never remarried, saying that Bonnie was the only girl for him. He was a devoted dad and grandpa. He enjoyed traveling with Ted on business trips and going to Disneyland with the whole family. He spent lots of time with his three granddaughters — going to violin recitals, soccer games, plays, and games they were cheerleading at. He built them playhouses and enjoyed their annual adventure to the Coffee and Canvas shop in Lockwood. Casey also rekindled old friendships and loved getting together every month with his Lockwood pals for breakfast at the 2nd Shift. Casey had a sweet tooth and was never too full or ever turned down a chance to enjoy an ice cream cone at the Lockwood Dairy Queen, where they affectionately dubbed him “The Medium Vanilla Cone Guy.” Next time you eat a vanilla cone — you might think of him….
Casey was preceded in death by his parents; his younger brother, Dewey; and his wife, Bonnie. He is survived by his brothers, Tim (Pam) Slough and Toby Slough; his son, Ted Slough; his daughter, Angie (Dan) Paris; his granddaughters, Reagan, Ellie and Sofie Paris; and countless other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave., followed by a graveside service at Sunset Memorial Gardens and a reception and celebration of life at the Billings Elks Lodge at 2413 Montana Ave.
