Catherine “Cathy” Holland Obie passed away on Dec. 10, 2022, surrounded by her family, after a brief fight with a rare and aggressive cancer.
Cathy was born on Dec. 4, 1951, in Billings, to Jeremiah and Katherine Holland. Cathy attended schools in Rapid City, South Dakota, and Billings, graduating from Billings Central High School. She also attended Eastern Montana College, where she met the love of her life, Larry.
Cathy and Larry were married in March 1974. Together they had two children: Jeff and Nicole. The kids were fortunate enough to have Cathy as a stay-at-home mom, except during tax season when she was a vital partner with Larry at his accounting business. Cathy was a strong advocate for her children, serving on the school board while each child attended Independent Elementary School. She continued to support and encourage her kids through the rest of her life; support which she also extended to her granddaughter, Quinn, who we can all agree was the clear favorite.
Cathy loved spending summers with Larry up at their cabin at Georgetown Lake, which she always described as her dream home. Larry and Cathy retired in 2014, allowing them to enjoy even more time at the cabin. The splendid times at the lake can never be erased. We will have them forever. Cathy was a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the glue that held us together. She will be greatly missed.
Cathy is survived by Larry, her husband of 48 years; her children, Jeffrey (Niki) and Nicole; her granddaughter Quinn; brother-in-law Jim (Glenna); sister-in-law Bonnie (John); brother-in-law Gene; sister-in-law Linda; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave.
Cathy wished to be cremated and for her ashes to be spread during a private ceremony at Georgetown Lake in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the charity of your choice.
