Charlie left us on the first day of summer, June 21, 2019, to join his parents Henry and Agnes Allen. Born Jan. 9, 1937, he was an only child. After graduating from Billings Senior High, Charlie entered the Navy for two years, stationed in California.
On Jan. 18, 1960, at the age of 23, Charlie joined the Billings Fire Department as a Tailboard man. He remained a fire fighter until 1989, then became an engineer and subsequently a Captain. He then joined the Fire Prevention Bureau as an inspector. The title was changed to Deputy Fire Marshall, which was the job he held until retirement. Charlie was extremely proud of his career, dedicating 38 years of service to the City of Billings.
Charlie had a very strong faith and relationship with the Lord. His church and bible study were very important to him, especially his Tuesday morning gathering at First English Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed giving back to the community as a volunteer for St. Vincent Healthcare and the Gideon Society. Charlie was a lifetime member of the Elks Organization. He was also an avid sports fan, watching Montana college games and attending many local high school games.
Over the years, Charlie and Bonnie enjoyed many years of exciting travel.
Charlie leaves behind his loving wife, Bonnie, of 35 years; two daughters, Pam Chow (Harvey), Cindy Paul; and three stepdaughters, Lori Wenckus, Misse Iverson (Jim), Nova Kolander (Dan); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his favored cats, Mittens and Socks.
Thank you to Dr. Neal Sorensen and his staff at IMA, St. Vincent 3rd Fortin staff, and Compassus Hospice for the wonderful care of Charlie. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to First English Lutheran Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at First English Lutheran Church, 1243 N. 31st. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 1721 Central Ave.
