Charles "Charlie" Longman, 71, formally of Lewistown and a longtime resident of Billings, MT, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2011 at his residence in Billings after a long illness.
Charlie was born February 12, 1940 to Charles C. and Hilda C. Longman at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lewistown, Montana. He attended elementary school at Lower Beaver Creek Elementary School and high school at Fergus County High School, Lewistown, Montana. He was an active member in 4-H and Future Farmers of America.
Charlie loved trucks. Over the years he hauled meat to California and produce back to Montana, drove for Standard Oil hauling gasoline, and worked for various other companies hauling just about anything that could be hauled. He then purchased his first truck and trailer. For many years he leased on with Raymond Corcoran Trucking along with other local trucking companies. He saw most of the United States and part of Canada in his travels until health problems forced him to retire.
After retiring from his truck driving career, he enjoyed reading and taking scenic drives around Montana. He also had a passion for woodworking, spending countless hours in his woodshop building small projects. He especially enjoyed passing on his knowledge of woodworking to his grandson. In addition, he loved visiting with his friends over an ice cold beer and taking care of his loyal companion, Annabelle the cat.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary (Rich) Hash and Niki (Rich) Larson; son, Scott Longman; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Jim Evans; grandchildren, Connor Hash, Bryce Oderman, Jonathon, David and Gavin Larson; ex-wife, Jeanette Longman, numerous cousins, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
