Christian Mark Sorensen, age 57, of Billings, passed away in a car accident on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017.

Chris was born on Dec. 2, 1959, in Casper, Natrona County, Wyoming, to Sylvester C. Sorensen and Marvel Eloise Hutson. He attended Eastern Montana College in Billings (now MSUB), where he earned a B.A. in environmental studies. He then worked for the City of Great Falls for a number of years, and wrote a column for Smokejumper Magazine focusing on wildland fire news, politics, aviation and safety specifically for the Smokejumper community. He was very passionate about family, the outdoors, University of Montana football, and Montana history.

Chris was an active member of a number of organizations. He was a Master Mason of the sublime degree in Ashlar Lodge #29 AF and AM in Billings; a member of the York Rite of Freemasonry; a 32nd degree Mason of the Billings Valley Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction; a member of the Al Bedoo Shrine Temple Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine; a member of the Euclid Lodge #58 AF and AM in Great Falls; and the Hasan Grotto in Great Falls.

He is survived by his mother, Marvel Long; his sister, Amy Marie Sorensen; two stepbrothers, Tim and Chad Burrington; his uncle and aunt, Tom and Barbara Hutson; and numerous cousins and other extended family members. He is preceded in death by his father, Sylvester C. Sorensen, as well as various aunts, uncles and cousins.

A viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park. A Celebration of Chris's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Al Bedoo Shrine Auditorium in the Lodge Room.
