On the morning of Nov. 29, 2017, Clarice Irene Hert passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord, while at home.
Clarice was born in Hardin on Nov. 8, 1929, and led a life of example, with faith and family at the forefront of each day. Clarice married Floyd Hert on Nov. 7, 1948, and, for more than 45 years, they built a home, family and lasting legacy of love that will serve as an example through generations to come.
Together, Clarice and Floyd had eight children who filled their lives with the greatest possessions this world has to offer: joy, time and love. Some of Clarice's greatest passions were in serving others, volunteering her efforts in elections and blood drives, reading and expression through painting. Her greatest joy came from her children and theirs. She was grandmother to 19, great-grandmother to 45 and great-great-grandmother to two.
Clarice will continue to be a part of our everyday lives in her beautiful pastoral paintings hanging in our homes and in the stories we share. Her spirit will be in our midst as our family joins together once again in her small home on the corner, bursting at the seams with overwhelming loss tempered with thanks for this mother, this grandmother, this friend.
Clarice was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery Douglas (1963); her husband, Floyd (1995); and her son-in-law Dave Hill (2014).
Clarice is survived by her children, Kathy Swift (Reuben), Jerry Hert (Melissa), Elaine Hill, Teri Knoche (Doug), Norma Schuman (Jim), Greg Hert (Helen) and Mike Hert (Beckie).
A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 717 18th St. West. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
