Clinton Leland McFarland passed away suddenly on May 6, 2017, in his lifelong home, with family at his side. He was born in Billings on March 29, 1930, to Clinton B. McFarland and Beulah A. Barnett McFarland. He attended grade school at Two Pine School and graduated from Senior High School in1948. He attended one year of college at Eastern Montana College.

He married Jean Phyllis Oakes on Oct. 30, 1950, and they had three children. Clint served on the Two Pine School Board for 10 years (1951-1961), the Broadview School board for 17 years (1961-1978), Yellowstone County Planning Commission (2010-2016) and the Yellowstone County Conservation District for 55 years (1962 to present). He became a Mason on Feb. 9, 1954, in The Rapelje Lodge AF and AM #122. He was also a lifelong member of the Molt Congregational Church.

Clint and his father raised Registered Hereford cattle until they both got tired of the pinkeye and sunburned bags. He then began building up a very fine herd of commercial Angus that he was proud of. Dad had several good saddle horses and a few not so good. The good ones he really appreciated but the bad ones were the cause of many aches and pains in his later years. Dad also liked telling a good joke, sometimes a bit off-color, much to Mom's discomfort, but never in a way to hurt anyone. He was well liked and respected by his peers and acquaintances.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Margaret McFarland Ames. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean; his son, Ted (Lisa) McFarland of Molt; his daughter, Diana (Roy) Heiken of Broadview; his son, Greg (Myong) McFarland of Billings. He also is survived by three grandsons, Keith (Dana) Heiken of Dickson, Pa., Dean (Krista) Heiken of Gillette, Wyo., and Grant Heiken of Billings; two granddaughters, Ainsley McFarland and Kamdyn McFarland; and three great-grandchildren, Triston, Cariann and Addilyn. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Vincent Ames of Red Lodge.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, at the Mayflower Congregational Church, 2940 Poly Drive, officiated by Pastor Jerry Franks. Lunch will be served after the service, with interment in Mountview Cemetery following.

The family asks that any donations in Clint's name be made to either the Molt Congregational Church or the Molt Volunteer Fire Department.
