Coleen Lenore Herman died peacefully of complications of dementia on May 2, 2006 in the company of the caring staff at Edgewood Vista.

Coleen was born to Henry and Ethel Moe in Leroy, Minnesota on March 30, 1924. In 1928 she moved with her family to Billings where she enrolled at Broadwater Elementary School. She graduated from Billings Senior High in 1941 and completed bookkeeping and clerical course work at Billings Business College. After WWII she married Les Young of Sidney, they enjoyed many years together, bowling, traveling and dancing. After completing business studies Coleen worked at Marshall Wells Co. In 1961 she began a 23 year career at the Department of Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, retiring in 1984. She made the most of her retirement with her second husband Ervin. She enjoyed gardening, spoiling her pets, playing the slot machines in Las Vegas, where she and Ervin were married in 1975, and traveling. Coleen was a talented seamstress and an avid crossword puzzle solver. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Coleen will be remembered for her quick smile, her colorful wardrobe, and her kind heart. She loved animals and was the first to lend a hand to those less fortunate than she.

Coleen was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband Ervin. She is survived by a sister, Wanda Timmins of Reed Point, stepson, Leslie Herman, stepdaughter, Sandy Herman, and several nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to the staff of the Vista at St. John's for the assistance they provided Coleen and to the staff at Edgewood Vista, who took such good care of her in her final days.

Memorials in Coleen's name may be sent to the Billings Animal Shelter, 1735 Monad Road, Billings, MT 59102.

Services will be held at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary on Monday, May 8th at 1pm. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
