Darren Wesley Shull

Darren Wesley Shull, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022, just outside of Roberts, Montana. Darren ultimately gave his life doing what he does: helping a stranger in need.

Darren was born in Great Falls, Montana, on April 17, 1970, and was adopted at birth by William and Gisela Shull. He was raised in Great Falls, where he spent many summers fishing, hunting and camping with his family at their cabin on Cooper’s Lake. After graduating from C.M.R. High School in 1989, Darren enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. He served on active duty for six years, where he was honorably discharged as a Corporal and a Desert Storm Veteran.

After Darren’s time in the military, he attended Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon, and Montana State University in Billings, where he earned his degree in Fire Science. After graduating, he moved to Billings, where he started his career as a paramedic/firefighter.

Shortly after moving to Billings, Darren met Angela. The two were married for 10 years and raised two sons, Tyler and Logan, who were Darren’s pride and joy. Darren was very involved in lives of his sons. From fishing and camping trips every summer to coaching their baseball and soccer teams, Darren was always there, cheering them on and guiding them to be the best they could be. In 2017, Darren met Lacy, the love of his life. The two of them were married in 2018 where they blended their families and he gained two beautiful daughters, LaiLianna and Rayla. Without skipping a beat, Darren jumped into the lives of LaiLi and Rayla and assumed the role as their dad, helping mend their hearts from prior pain. Darren was excited when he got another chance to play his role as “Coach” when he started coaching Rayla’s soccer team. Darren’s best attributes and joy were being a father and grandfather. He loved his children, and he was most proud to recently welcome his first grandson, Malcolm, into the world.

Darren spent the last decade of his life as an avid motorcycle rider, where he was welcomed into the biker community and known to all as “Tazer.” Darren officially joined the “Purple and Gold” family in 2019 when he was recognized as a member of the Galloping Goose Motorcycle Club and became a brother to many not only in Billings but across the United States. Darren was known for his pranks and being mischievous! The ultimate prank seems to be one he played on himself! Years ago, while on motorcycle ride with friends, Darren had a taser in his pocket and in true Darren fashion, he some how managed to tase himself while riding down the road. And this is the reason he received the riding name “Tazer”! Darren’s infectious smile, ridiculous laugh, awful dad jokes and constant pranks will be missed greatly.

Darren is survived by his wife, Lacy; son Tyler (Amberly) Shull; son Logan Shull; daughter LaiLianna Stewart; daughter Rayla Stewart; grandson Malcolm Shull. Darren is also survived by his mother, Gisela Wren; siblings Brad Shull (Kathy), Scott Shull (Lisa), Brian Shull (Jeannette), Sandy Shull, Andy Stoltenberg (Jennifer), Kurt Guisti (Carolyn), Kari Mrnak (Rod), Corey Adams (Shelli), Justin Adams (Melissa), Colby Adams; mother-in-law Margie Warren-Irmen; sister-in-law Katy Foley (Jeff); brother-in-law Michael Irmen; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and his four-legged babies, Zena, Zook, Maya and Maddie.

Preceding Darren in death were his grandparents, Erika and John Coleman; his father, William Shull; stepmother Marlene Shull; and stepbrother Casey Guisti.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Yellowstone National Cemetery in Laurel. A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Billings Hotel and Convention Center.
