Delores May Olson, 98, passed away on July 7, 2022, in Billings.
She was born on May 9, 1924, to James and Jetty Birch in Billings. After graduating from Park County High School in 1942, she attended Kinman Business College and then worked for Northern Pacific in the accounting office. She married her high school sweetheart, Marvin Olson, on Aug. 22, 1945. Together, they built and operated the Del Mar Motel from 1952 until selling it in 1977. They were also partners in the Guest House Hotel and purchased the Tastee Freeze Drive Inn in 1978, operating it until selling it in 1981. For eight years they enjoyed winters in Arizona while spending summers in Billings before moving back to Billings year round. After the death of her husband, she resided at St John’s United in Billings until her death.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband and infant daughter Geraldine. She always enjoyed her family. Surviving members are her children, Tom (Jean) Olson of Laurel, Debbie (John) Tuomi of Palmer, Alaska; five grandchildren, Jenny (Chad) Nugent, Eric (Clarice) Olson, Bryan (Kjersten) Olson, Justin (Alyson) Tuomi, Jessica Tuomi, and a foster grandson Eric (Julie) West. Great-grandchildren include Rylee and Devin Nugent; Addie, Jorie and Annika Olson; Tegan, Jake and Elsie Olson; Eli, Jackson, Abby Tuomi; Amelia Tuomi and Brittanee and Bailey West.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 18, at Lillis Chapel on the St. John’s United Campus, 2429 Mission Way in Billings. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Livingston at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Shriners Children Hospital or St. John’s United in Billings.
