Don was born on Nov. 6, 1931, in Dickinson, N.D., to Adam and Eva Messer Kipp, and passed away on May 12, 2016.
Don, his mother and sister, Corrine Kipp (Ostermiller), moved to Billings in 1944. He attended Fratt School, Lincoln Junior High, and graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1949. Don joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 through 1955. He belonged to the 19th Bomber Division and was proud to have served his country during the Korean War. He was also glad to have been working with the Norden Bombsight.
When he returned from his military duty, he attended Eastern Montana College (MSUB), graduating with a math and bachelor of science degree. He married Sharon Content and lived in California until 1971.
On his return to Billings, he continued his teaching career and reunited with his long-lost love from high school, Lenore Maxwell Holcomb. They were married at First United Methodist Church on May 5, 1972. They celebrated 44 wonderful full years this year.
He taught math at Riverside Junior High School for three years and then returned to MSU in Bozeman and earned his master's degree in administration. upon receiving his master's, he taught and coached in Montana and Wyoming.
In 1987, Don went to work for the Dept. of Defense Dependent Schools and they lived in Misawa, Japan, on an American Air Base. He taught math and science and coached football until 1997, when he and Lenore retired and moved back to their home in Billings. One of Don's favorite pastimes was when they could be headed "somewhere" on their Harley Davidson - he loved Harleys! The 10 years in Japan were wonderful, adventurous years, with many Japanese friends that visited them in Montana.
Don had three children, Michael of Shelton, Wash., Ronald of Frannie, Wyo., Kathy Kipp Hill (deceased), and he inherited Kurt Holcomb of Omaha, Ne., upon Don's marriage to Lenore. Together, Don and Lenore shared a wonderful family and great times for all 44 years. Don now lives in a wonderful new heavenly home, and is reunited with his mother and daughter Kathy.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 20, at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 1810 Shiloh Road.
