Doris Mae McComb, 83, of Arizona City, Ariz., previously of Wilsall, was born on March 6, 1933, in Big Timber, to Arne and Grace Hoem. A graduate of Sweet Grass County High School in 1951, she graduated Vocational Business College in Sacramento, Calif., in 1952, then married her high school sweetheart Larry McComb on Nov. 9, 1952. In 1957, they had their only daughter, Stacy.

Doris worked at Beider Feed and Grain until 1960 when they moved to Livingston. She spent the remaining years of her career working for the Agriculture, Stabilization, Conservation, and Soil Service. She very much enjoyed working and planning with the farmers and ranchers, so started D and L Irrigation as a side business, designing and setting up farming irrigation systems. They moved to Wilsall in 1976, where they lived until retiring to Arizona City in 1993.

In 1995, at age 62, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She lived in her own home and golfed nearly every day until 2007. She also enjoyed trips with her daughter to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, to Norway to meet relatives from her home country, and to Florida to visit Busch Gardens. In 2007, determined to remain in Arizona, she moved to a Dementia Care Unit until returning home to Montana with her daughter in April of 2015. She spent the remaining 18 months at Tendernest in Billings, where the entire staff became our extended family. The wonderful people of Rocky Mountain Hospice joined our care team on Sept. 19, assisting us in her final journey home. Doris passed away on Oct. 20, 2016.

Doris loved gardening, shopping, art, dancing, music, golfing, and searching for great real estate.

She was preceded in death by her husband Larry; and is survived by her daughter Stacy Goins and husband Dick; twin sister Dolores Hoiland; sister Lois Stevens and husband Harlan; brother Harold Hoem; nieces, Renee Hoem, Dinae Hoem, Allyson Briese (children Ryal and Jaydy) Melissa Gavne and husband Jeff (children Colton and Paige), Mitzi Robbie and husband Scott (children Ty, Boe and wife Miranda); nephew Curtis Bjorndal and wife Stacy (child Shelby); cousins Sarge and Raymond Hoem.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the Stenberg Funeral Home in Big Timber. Reception to follow. Cremation has taken place.
