Doris Eileen Olsgaard

In the morning light, Doris went peacefully into the arms of her family and God. Doris Eileen Olsgaard was born on October 13, 1918, the oldest of six children to Ed and Marie (Vice) Olson in Ayr, ND. She grew up and attended school in Kindred, ND, graduating in 1936. She married Newman B Olsgaard on April 30, 1938 and they settled in Jamestown, ND in 1939. To this union were born 4 children Mary Beth, David, Nancy and John. In 1956, she lost Newman and began a new dimension of her life. Working outside the home at the Fair Store, Dupuy Sorkness Clinic and finally as a bookkeeper at White Drug store for 28 years and retiring in 1988. Her home was always open to friends of her kids, who enjoyed her chocolate chip cookies, and any food around! Friends knew they were always welcome and there was a cup of coffee waiting for them. She was one of the early members of Trinity Lutheran church, was active in Lady Washington Eastern Star and the Elketts in Jamestown. Life was a challenge and many times difficult but mom was always positive. She came to live with her daughter in Billings in April 2012. She loved her independence that she had built over the years. She had been a resident of the Gallagher Assisted Living since October and we are thankful for the loving care she received there! She is survived by her children, Nancy (Tom) Whitmer, Billings, MT, Vern and Linda Anderson, Bismarck, ND, Addie and Sam Chambers, Boise, ID and Jane Olsgaard, Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren: Dana Mitchell, Matt Chambers, David Anderson, Erica Thorton, Christine Soileau, Eileen Purcell, Sarah Sipes and Neal Olsgaard and 7 great grand children: Augusta, Owen, Lillian, Porter, Parker, Nora and Anna Grace and a sister June Lund, Bismarck, ND and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by parents, husband Newman, daughter Mary Beth Anderson, sons David and John Olsgaard, her sisters Geraldine Nickelson, Lorraine Lee, Donna Bernstein and brother Ronald Olson. Visitation will be 1-3 pm Sunday at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Services and burial will take place in Kindred, ND.
