Dorothy Mitchell McGuire was born in Willow Creek April 11, 1912. She attended Grade and High School in Willow Creek. In 1930 she graduated from Eastern Montana Normal College in Billings and later got her Education Degree at Montana State University in Bozeman. After graduation she taught in Broadwater County and then after moving to Bozeman in 1942 she taught in Bozeman for 38 years in the Elementary grades.
Her life had many interests. She was a very avid bridge player, she says her golf was mediocre, her painting passable, her organ playing strictly for her own amazement and amusement. She was a gracious host and loved entertaining. Her creative crafts and Christmas decorations will leave many happy memories.

Husband Jim Mitchell passed away in June 1991 after 54 years of marriage and Joe McGuire died in 2005 after 9 years of marriage. They always said they worked hard and played hard all their life and their friends will qualify that. Dorothy was a 52-year member of the Eastern Star Lily of Valley Chapter. She also belonged to, Elks Ladies, Eagles Ladies, Tirzah Temple Daughters of the Nile, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Sons and Daughters of Montana Pioneers.
Preceding her in death were her husbands Jim Mitchell and Joe McGuire, parents: William and Marie Flaherty, sisters; Isabelle “Toots” Vollmer, Marjorie Paisley, Gwen Massa, Madelyn Pinto, Billie Harnsberger and brother Desmond Flaherty.
Dorothy is survived by daughter Carma (Dave) Gilligan of Missoula; three grand children : James (Julie) Gilligan of Missoula; Carnia Lange of Billings; and John Gilligan of Washington D.C.; four great grandchildren Jamie, Jessie, and Josh of Missoula and Samatha Lange of Billings. Nieces and nephews Bill(Sue) Vollmer of East Helena; James (Jean) Paisley of Scottsdale, AZ; David (Alma) Paisley of Elkport, ID; Madeline (Fred) Heer of Bismarck, ND; Dean (Linda) Masssa and Penny Massa of Hamiliton, MT; Larry (Marcia) Massa of Bellflower, CA; Jerry (Peggy) Pinto of Katy, TX; Zona (Mike) Pinto-Bragelman of Tuscon, AZ; Marie Pinto of Bisbee, AZ; Charlie (Shelia) Meaker of Denmark; and daughter-in laws Mary Flaherty of Manhattan Beach, CA; and Jean Flaherty of TX. She also has 9 great grand nieces and 11 great grand nephews.
Memorial Services for will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at 3:00 PM at Westpark Village Senior Living.
The family suggests memorials to the Gallatin Historical Society-Pioneer Museum, 317 W. Main, Bozeman, MT 59715 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
