Dr. Berl Ward passed away on Feb. 9, 2015, in Roundup. He was well known in Billings, having had a medical practice for 27 years.
Born in South Bend, Ind., in 1922, Berl earned his medical degree from Indiana University in 1946. Upon completion of two internships and having served in the Air Force as a general surgeon, he completed his urology residency at Mayo Clinic in 1955.
In 1946, he married Ellen "Bert" (Kline). They were married 68 years until her death in 2014.
As he looked back on his time in Montana, Berl felt that he had lived a great life in his 57 years in Billings because he was able to practice medicine in his own office. He also enjoyed the company of good friends in their many outings together for fishing, hunting and golf. In addition, he and Bert were known for hosting wonderful parties, where they enjoyed good food and laughter with their many friends.
Berl is survived by twin grown children, Mark Ward of Ryegate and Michele Ward of Eugene, Ore. He also had four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Dr. Ward will be held at 11 a.m. on April 11, at First Presbyterian Church of Billings.
