Earl Otto Zumbrun

Earl Otto Zumbrun, 99, died peacefully on Feb. 20, 2018. Earl was born on Nov. 12, 1918, on his parents' ranch outside of Boyd. He was the son of Clarence and Hedwig (Kebschull) Zumbrun.

Earl served as a gunnery sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. On April 25, 1945, Earl and Bertha Duxbury were united in marriage at Saint Patrick's Church in Billings. They made their home in Billings from 1945 to 1948, in Joliet from 1948 to 1955, and in Livingston from 1955 to 1957. In July of 1957, they returned to Billings. In 1963, Earl opened a Viking Sewing store in Billings, which he operated until his retirement in 1980. After Bertha died in 2011, Earl lived at The Vista until his death.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Richard Platt; his brothers, Everett and Lloyd; his sisters, Ida Schwend, Irma Ellis, Hazel Conway and Norma Freeman. He is survived by his three daughters, Earlene (Bob) Meyer of Billings, Shirley (Ron) Smith of Woodinville, Washington, and Theresa (Vernon) Gisi of Fayetteville, Georgia; as well as his sister Florence Steiner of Billings. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Interment will follow in Joliet Cemetery at 2 p.m.
