Edith Johnson Carlson passed away peacefully (at the age of 101) on Nov. 3, 2015. Edith was born on May 12, 1914, in Powell, Wyo., to Ethel and Harold Johnson. Edith completed her schooling in Malta, Mont., and went on to complete her college education at Montana State College in Bozeman with a degree in medical technology. In May of 2015, Edith attended her 80-year Commemorative Reunion at MSU-Bozeman, with special recognition from President Cruzado. Edith greatly enjoyed her social activities with a passion for life, people and travel. Edith was an active member of the PEO AV Chapter, DAR, Eastern Star and St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She was an avid bridge player, very talented in knitting and crocheting, cooking and growing and pampering of her roses. Edith's love to travel took her to many places around the world. Edith married Paavo Carlson in 1938. Paavo was a Career Army Officer, which involved Paavo and Edith living in many locations in the United States and Germany. Upon Paavo's retirement in 1978, Billings became their home. Edith is survived by her son, David Carlson (Mary); brother, Willard Johnson; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Lindsey, Michael and Amanda; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Paavo; two sons, Steven and Michael; and two brothers, Harold "Joe" and Don. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 119 N. 33rd St. There will a reception at the church following the memorial service. Burial will be at a later date at the Black Hills National Cemetery, South Dakota. The family would like to thank Peggy Jensen for her companionship over the last six years, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, St. Vincent Hospital, Dr. Sorenson and West Park Village. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to PEO Chapter AV, St. Luke's Episcopal Church or the charity of your choice.
