Esther Diede

Esther DiedeEsther Diede, 86 of Lavina, died Monday evening, March 13, 2006 at Billings Health and Rehab with her son and daughter at her side.

The daughter of Jack and Margaret Steinmetz, Esther was born October 18, 1919 in Portland, Oregon. When she was ten the family moved to Montana.

Esther married Phillip Diede in Red Lodge on May 24, 1935. They made their home in Billings and in 1964 moved to Oregon. Phillip retired in 1978 and they moved to Lavina. Esther was a clerk at Kreske's and Woolworths and had worked for Boeing and at a food cannery. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and trips to Reno.

She was preceded in death by her husband Phillip on June 10, 1986, her daughter Betty Jane Metzker on September 8, 2001 and by her step-brother Clifford Gutwig.

Survivors include her son Ron Diede and his wife Diane of Boring, Oregon, daughter Shirley Dunwald and her husband Lorn of Lavina, three grandchildren, Nick Diede, Russell (Heide) Diede and Sheila Dunwald,a step-sister Genevieve Bacon and 2 very special friends, Maureen Norton and Betty Becker.

The family would like to thank the staff at Billings Health and Rehab for the wonderful care provided to Esther.

At Esther's request there will be no funeral service. Visitation will begin 1pm Friday at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Graveside services will be 11am Saturday at the Lavina Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
