In the late evening of Aug. 29, 2017, our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother peacefully passed away. Evelyn J. Funk was born Dec. 30, 1930, and raised on the family farm west of Billings. The daughter of George and Eva Staley, she was also sister to Helen, Lil, George and Harry.
Evelyn attended both Elder Grove and Shiloh grade schools, graduating from Billings Senior High School in 1948. On Feb. 2, 1951, Evelyn married Harry Funk. Together, Evelyn and Harry raised three hard-working, independent children - Lonnie, Terri and Geri - with strong values and a sense of right.
Evelyn was a dedicated homemaker, supporting and encouraging her children and grandchildren in every activity and endeavor. She enjoyed dancing the polka, working as a Pink Lady at St. V's, bowling, playing piano by ear, dressing up for parties, playing games like Aggravation, and family vacations. One of her greatest claims to fame was baking 13 apple pies in one day!
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harry; her parents; and all four of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by son Lonnie (Leslie) and grandchildren Amy (Bill) Armfield and Lindsay (Chris) Davis; daughter Terri (Bob) McIver and grandchildren Christie and Brandon; and daughter Geri Funk. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Avery, Nolan and Payton Armfield, and Ellie and Everett Davis.
Memorial donations may be to the local Alzheimer's foundation or the charity of your choice. Evelyn's family would like to thank the loving and compassionate staff and residents of Big Horn Cottage at the Tender Nest, and Compassus Hospice.
A memorial service for Evelyn will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave., followed by inurnment of ashes at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park. Friends and family are then invited to a lunch reception at St. Thomas Apostle Church, 2055 Woody Drive.
