Frances E. (Leingang) Doll, 90, of Billings, passed away peacefully at St. John's Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday morning, Aug. 2, 2018.
Frances was born in St. Anthony, North Dakota, on Sept. 30, 1927. She was the youngest of nine children of John and Eleanor (Hoffman) Leingang. She was raised on the family farm near St. Anthony.
On Oct. 21, 1947, Frances married Valentine "Val" Doll in Solen, North Dakota. Together, they raised three sons. In 1949, they moved to Billings, where Dad started the family radiator business, and Mom became the head finance accountant. She worked hard supporting the family as a housewife and cleaning lady. She was always involved in her boys' activities as a PTA mom and Little League mom. After retiring, they enjoyed a short stint in Columbus, but wanting to be closer to the grandkids brought them back to Billings. Frances and Val traveled extensively and spent many winters in Arizona. They enjoyed a lot of camping and boating in Montana in the summertime with us kids and our families. Mom was a great German cook and was at her happiest preparing her delicious meals for her family. Mom loved her three daughters-in-law and they loved her. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest gift ... and they loved their Oma!
Frances was a keen pinochle player and loved any card game. She was probably one of the luckiest bingo players ever! She became quite famous at St. Johns' for her bingo winnings (of chocolate) and the candy bucket was always full for her grandchildren's visits.
She is survived by three sons, Jim (Loretta), Gary (Judy) and Dave (Sandy), all of Billings; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and all eight of her siblings.
The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful caring staff at St. John's Chapel Court and Unity Place. Also, the support from Senior Independence Hospice that made Frances' final months tranquil and peaceful. She felt safe, she felt cared for and she felt loved. God Bless each and every one of you who touched Oma's life.
A vigil will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery at 2 p.m.
