Frances Ann Hargis passed away peacefully the night of Aug. 11, 2018. Frances was born on Oct. 14, 1934, in Salt Lake City, to Carl and Frances Herre. Frances spent her childhood growing up in Ashton, Idaho, where she met the love of her life, Edward Hargis. Ed and Frances married on June 15, 1957. They started a strong, loving family when Mike was born in 1958, followed by Leslie in 1962 and Linda in 1965. Frances cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremy, Kallie and Calvin. And nothing made these grandchildren happier than time spent with her.

After graduating from Ashton High School, Frances attended Idaho State University, where she graduated with a degree in pharmacy. At this time, there were a limited number of females in this field, demonstrating what a strong, determined woman Frances was.

As Ed moved through the stages of his medical training, Frances was close by his side. After briefly living in Wisconsin and Maine, Ed and Frances moved their family to Billings in 1967. Frances was always involved in the activities of her children, whether it was volunteering at the school or transporting each to their numerous activities. While raising three children, Frances worked at various pharmacies across Billings.

Ed and Frances loved spending time at their cabin and had a continuous open door invite out to family and friends. If they were at their cabin, all were welcome for a cup of coffee and a bed to spend the night.

As each child grew and left for various spots across the country, they knew Mama was always just a phone call away. Whether the calls were mundane "How was your day" or more profound, Frances treasured hearing each of their voices. And as each grandchild grew, they could also count on her to be there for their activities, if not in person, then with a phone call to hear the full story.

Frances is survived by her son, Michael (Maridee) Hargis; her daughters, Leslie (Matt Knudson) Hargis and Linda (Eric) Bjorgum. In addition to her grandchildren, Frances is survived by four great-grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Frances Herre; and her husband, Edward L Hargis, M.D.

A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Stillwater Hospice or a charity of choice.

Mama, you are the strongest woman we have ever known. You never gave up which taught us to never give up. We know you are with Papa and happy now. We will carry you with us forever.
