George Elmer Guay

George Elmer Guay age 90 of Billings, passed away peacefully at home with family around him. George was born Feb 27, 1921 at the family home at 2907 Harrison Avenue in Butte, MT to Homer and Ida (Neveu/Nevin) Guay.

George was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette Rudman and his parents, brothers and sister-in-laws Homer, Jr. (Lillian) Ovide (Velma) Harvey and Eddie and nephew Shaun Madden.

He is survived by his children, Georgette Guay , Billings; Greg Guay and his wife Paula, Livingston; and Diane Guay DeHekker and Glenn DeHekker, Calgary; his sister LaVonne and brother-in-law Bert Madden; sisters-in-law Veva Guay and Alice Guay. George was also "grandpa" to many grand children and great grand children. He was also an uncle everyone loved.

He attended Longfellow grade school and apprenticed as a painter for the Ellis Paint Company. He was drafted into the Army in 1944 and was stationed in Europe seeing action at the Battle of the Bulge and in other major areas of conflict. He was awarded the Bronze Star. Although he was proud of his service, he was more than happy to return to Butte and civilian life.

In 1947 he and his family moved to Billings and opened the Midland Paint Company. While painting most of Montana and Wyoming, he and his brothers were able to mine uranium, gold and silver in many corners of Montana.

His mother said “some families are known for power, some for money, but the Guay’s were known for having a "good time," and George did love to have a good time. He was infectious and a force in the many lives he touched. No one left 532 "dry" or hungry or without a "French roof." And that is how we will remember him, with a ready laugh, quick wit and a cold Bud.

The family will be receiving friends for visitation at Michelotti-Sawyers, on Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 A.M., Saturday, August 20, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary with burial and military honors to follow at Mountview Cemetery.
