Gilbert “Gil” Ficek, 81, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2020, at St. Vincent Healthcare. Gil was born April 19, 1939, on a farm near New Hradic, ND. The family moved to Dickinson, ND, where he grew up on a farm. He enlisted in the US Navy under the Buddy Program with Clem Decker. In the Navy he served aboard the USS Mauna-Kea Ae-22. They supplied the West Coast Fleet with ammunition of all sorts. They made numerous deployments over seas from the San Francisco Bay area. Gil married Marjorie Sabo, October 17, 1960 in Dickinson, ND where he was employed at Dakota Clay. In December of 1961 they moved to Billings, MT and Gil went to work for Sweetheart Bakery where he was employed for 42 years. Gil was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Moose Lodge. He volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul. His favorite pastime was fishing and he was an avid Billings Mustangs fan. Survivors are his wife, Marjorie; son, Rollin (Kim); daughters Renee (Tom) Nelson, Roxane (Mike) Ficek-Wolf; grandchildren, Teresa (Eric) Sandvig, Josh (Kari) Poehls, Stephanie (Mikel) Boyd, Justin (Leah) Cady, Dustin (Hillary) Cady, Taylor (Robin) Dittman; great-grandchildren, Connor, Makayla, Easton, Abby, Mark, Reece and Blair. Also surviving are brothers Don, Ray, Clarence (Linda), Alvin (Shirley) and Ken (Jane); and his sister, Alice Binstock. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Randal; sisters, Irene Kostenko and Edie (Tom) Decker; and sister-in-law Helen Ficek, Sister-in-law Tina Rixon, and brother-in-law Ed Binstock. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
