Gregory “Greg” Richard Burton

Greg Burton, 73, passed away on March 14, 2025, with his wife and son by his side. Greg fought a long and hard battle with cancer and now he can rest with his Lord and Savior.

Greg was born September 11, 1951, to Ella Mae French and E.R. Simon and to this union 3 children were born: Douglas, Greg, and Carol. Ella Mae remarried to Charles D. Burton and to this union 3 children were born: Chuck, John, and Laurie.

Even though Greg was born and raised in California, he had deep roots and love for Montana. His mother was born and raised in the Absarokee area and the French families have stayed in Montana.

Greg wore many hats when it came to work, but his life work was for Exxon Mobil which he retired from with 25 years of service. In retirement, Greg worked part-time for King’s Ace Hardware supporting the small engine shop and doing miscellaneous projects; a job he truly loved along with his Ace family. Greg’s greatest moment was the birth of his son Aaron in September 1988; he was extremely proud of the person he was and the man he became. Greg enjoyed camping in his early years, Morrell Mushroom hunting with family, being Mr. Fixit at home and always going after the “Big Buck” while hunting. His home and family were his greatest accomplishments. And we will all miss his great horse impersonations!

Greg is preceded in death by his mom Ella Mae (French) Burton, dad Charles D. Burton, brother Douglas Simon, mother-in-law Betty Bourne, and brother-in-law Lin Bourne.

Greg is survived by his wife of 45 years Gail; son Aaron; sister Carol Tanner; brother John (Diana) Burton; brother Chuck (Linda) Burton; sister Laurie (Eric) Stenberg; sister-in-law Dana (Larry) Lippman; as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.

Our family would like to thank all the care givers in the last 11 years for their compassionate care and to Riverstone Hospice for his journey home. As per Greg’s wishes, no services have been planned. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
